So according to Victoria’s Secret I can love my body if my waist is the size my thigh currently is, if I am 5’ 9”, if I have long slightly wavy brown or blonde hair, and if I am either white or one very specific shade of brown. Thanks for that, I’ll log that away.

Victoria’s Secret is doing it wrong.

You forgot to mention magic boobs and child’s hips….

I’m pretty sure that some of the Victoria’s Secret models are anorexic. Loving your body? I think not.

uh can we not assume that though? anorexia is a serious thing, and people assume it or accuse models of it so flippantly. i don’t like the way the VS ad portrays “love your body” as only super thin women either, but let’s direct our criticisms at the actual company and not at models and stop speculating whether or not they have eating disorders.

also the dove ad technically has problems too: there are no incredibly naturally skinny girls there either. skinny women also exist, also are “real” women, and also qualify as real beauty. but we’re taught not to treat them as such because society considers thin a ‘standard’ so we act like we’re supposed to alienate them. like someone else said, if you de-airbrush the VS models and put these campaigns together, they’d be great.

Anorexia is an illness, not a body type. If a fat girl is starving herself, it doesn’t suddenly become anorexia once she’s skinny.

Actually, last I checked, in my DSM IV TR, anorexia does have a weight requirement which is something like failure to maintain a body weight of less than 85% normal weight. Until then it’s a type of restrictive bulimia or ED-NOS (eating disorder not otherwise specified). So yes, anorexia is a disease. And yes, it does have a weight limit.

I wonder how many of them are overweight-on doctors terms of course. Or underweight for that matter.
